Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Colour Payne's Gray is an opaque, dark blue gray made from a mixture of Ultramarine, Mars Black, and sometimes Crimson. It is mixed with linseed oil and is a permanent color with excellent lightfastness. It was named after the 18th c. water-colorist William Payne who created the mixture and often recommended it to his students as an alternative to plain black.
Made from high-quality pigments, Winton Oil Colours are durable, lightfast and permanent. With Winton's uniform consistency, it is exceptional for general use and ideal for working in large volume at the highest level. It offers excellent retention of brush and palette knife strokes.
