Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Colour Vandyke Brown is a transparent brown pigment that is often used for shading. It is mixed with linseed oil and is an extremely permanent color with very good lightfastness. This earth pigment was originally named after the Flemish painter Van Dyke who used it in many of his paintings.
Every tube of Artists' Oil Paint contains a calculated ratio of oil and pigment based on the quantity of oil in the tube. This varies from color to color because, just as some pigments need to be ground finer than others, they also need more, or less, oil to provide optimal performance.
