Tokyo At Night: The Artworks of Mateusz Urbanowicz II
The second collection of works by Polish illustrator, Mateusz Urbanowicz, the author of the hugely popular illustration collection "Tokyo Storefront", is the "Tokyo Night Tour" series, which depicts the Tokyo night with skillful watercolors. The landscapes of Tokyo captured from the author's unique perspective, such as landscapes with skyscrapers, neon lights seen from crowded back alleys, rain-soaked roads and cityscapes, and tasteful bridges and trains, evoke a sense of nostalgia and human activity. However, it also has an appearance reminiscent of another world, stirring the emotions of the viewer.
"Tokyo Night Tour" uses the author's unique sensibilities to depict the face of a metropolis that can only be seen at night and allowing the read to be able to experience a new side of Tokyo. At the end of the book, there is also a special conversation with director Makoto Shinkai, who is close friends with the author, and a behind-the-scenes look at the author's writing methods. This is also a must-read!
Note: This book features both Japanese and English translations.
