Masterpiece seals the front with four layers of sizing and cover the back with vinyl making both the front and back an impervious moisture barrier.
Masterpiece's Pau Portrait Smooth Acrylic Primed Artfix Linen is their smoothest acrylic primed linen canvas. It is a heavy weight linen with a luxurious heavy white ground with bright tone. 100% Belgian Linen 6.1oz; Primed Weight 14oz. per square yard (6 x Primed; 2 x Size & 4 x Primer). Medium weight, fine weaved with a portrait smooth textured surface. Double sized and quadruple primed with acid-free archival quality acrylic gesso. The impenetrable ground prevents oil paint from leaching through and harming the canvas.
Ideal for acrylics, oils, alkyds and water miscible oil paints.
Masterpiece's primer is made with the highest-quality Titanium Dioxide white pigment, which is an excellent pigment for acrylic primed grounds, providing superior whiteness and maintaining excellent flexibility over time. Unlike some other common pigments, such as zinc dioxide, TiO2 doesn't become brittle as it ages, helping to ensure that your painting will stand the test of time.
Artfix Pau Portrait Smooth Belgian Linen offers a luxurious surface, ideal for highly detailed work. Preferred by portrait artists because it is so smooth for linen. Due to the nature of how flax plants are turned into linen textiles, there may be variations in yarn thickness thereby creating fabric that is individual in nature and has character. There can be infrequent naturally occurring nubs in the linen which may yield small slight bumps where the linen is a little thicker than the rest of the strand. This is normal and part of what gives linen its character.
Masterpiece's Hardcore Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.
Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Note: There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.
