ASW Pride 2022 Lavender Rhino T-Shirt Size S
The Lavender Rhino. Designed as a symbol to encourage visibility for the LGBTQ community.
Boston artists Daniel Thaxton and Bernie Toale created a lavender rhinoceros for a public ad campaign in 1974. The rhino was chosen because "it is a much maligned and misunderstood animal. The color came from the mixture of pink and blue, a symbolic merger of the masculine and feminine." The big heart represents our common humanity - loving and beautiful. If you poke us, you'll have to deal with our horns.
Today, the Lavender Rhino is a proud symbol of the LGBTQ community. It stands tall, for protest and resistance - fighting against all oppressors.
