Museum Series Pastelbord is a medium textured, highly absorbent surface designed for pastels. Pastelbord is crafted from Ampersand's premium warp-resistant 1/8" profile FSC-certified Hardbord that is protected with their proprietary Archiva-Seal and coated with an acid-free clay and gesso ground with a marble dust finish. Artists choose Pastelbord because the tooth of the marble dust finish holds more layers of pastel than paper and it is versatile enough to be used with wet and dry applications.
Pastelbord's unique absorbent coating and rigid Hardbord backing allow it to be used for wet or dry applications like charcoal, colored pencil, acrylic, watercolor, and ink.
Ampersand Museum Series panels now feature Archiva-Seal protection on both the front and back of the wood panel. Before painting grounds are applied, Archiva-Seal helps seal wood fibers, create a barrier between the wood substrate and painting surface, and protect the long-term integrity of the panel. Treated on both sides for a more balanced, stronger, highly warp-resistant panel. The white back is the visible result of extending that archival protection to both sides. Made with conservator-quality materials, acid-free, pH Neutral.
