Figure drawing is a cornerstone of artistic training. The figure presents many technical issues including form, structure, foreshortening and more. Stripped of the cultural baggage of clothing, the nude figure can express every aspect of humanity, from the heroic to the pathetic.
Join us every Wednesday for our life drawing session that focuses on the figure. This uninstructed session is great for students young and old. Starting with shorter poses to warm up your artistic brain, we range from 2 minute poses to 20 minute poses. All mediums are welcome. Easels, benches, and refreshments are provided. Please bring your own paper and drawing materials. Derwent has provided Charcoal, Pastel, Graphite and other drawing pencils for attendees to try out during the session.
We request courtesy, maturity, and respect to the model and other artists. Photography is not allowed. We promote an open atmosphere where artists can interact, view, discuss, and encourage each other. Please note that models are subject to change without notice.
Registration is $15 per person, per session. $60 for a month pass, valid for Wednesday and Sunday sessions, a $120 value! Limited seats are available, sign up today!

Join us Sunday evenings for long pose sessions. During this session the model will strike one pose for the entire session. This allows the attendee to make an advanced study of the figure or portrait. With a longer pose one can not only study the figure, but focus on color issues as well. Painting from life rather than a picture can achieve more realistic results. This session is designed for painters, pastel artists, and anyone who desires time for a more in depth study, all mediums are welcome. Models will be nude or costumed. Please note that the models are subject to change without notice.

WAX ART LA is focused on the use of wax in contemporary art. Encaustic painting (hot wax painting) has seen a resurgence in recent years as availability for encaustic materials have become more readily available. As one of the oldest painting mediums on record, this show demonstrates both contemporary uses of the medium and the range of uses the medium can adapt to. From small wax sculptures to larger multi medium abstract paints WAX ART LA displays an array of artwork.
WAX ART LA was limited to artists currently living and working in Southern California and juried by Pam Smith-Hudson a Los Angeles area artist and UCLA graduate. A mixed media artist experienced in printmaking, collage, assemblage, encaustics as well as various water media painting techniques Pam Smith-Hudson's work focuses on organic abstractions reflecting rhythm and movement. Pam recently joined the Los Angeles County Museum of Art faculty and is an artist consultant for many art material manufacturers.
The show inlcudes work by a range of artists from different backgrounds. The artists included in the show are as follows- Grant Bathke, Jacki Long, BJ Lane, Robin Tripaldi, Miles Lewis, Suzanne Gibbs, Abraham Vera, Thilini Abeygunaratne, Rebecca Giesking, Helen Garber, Rachelle Mark, James Muscarello, Caryl St Ama, Walter Berry, and Mary Milelzcik (work is not physically in the show). Two artists were chosen for excellence in encaustic painting.
